Victims in deadly Newfane car crash identified

Two Gasport residents were killed in a Ridge Road car crash Saturday night.

The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office reports that a vehicle was traveling west on Ridge Road in Newfane at a high rate of speed about 10:15 p.m. and failed to negotiate a curve in the road. The driver lost control and veered onto the north side of the road, in the area of 7191 Ridge Road, striking a mailbox, a small tree and then a large tree before coming to a rest.

Both the driver and the passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff’s office said Caldon McCollum, 20, of Gasport, and Wesley Kovach, 21, of Gasport were killed in the crash.
