Man killed in 26th Street fire identified

Niagara Gazette — Authorities have identified the victim of a fire that occurred inside a 26th Street home earlier this week.

Niagara Falls police said 57-year-old Thomas R. Bozek died in the blaze inside a 1 1/2 story apartment building located at 536 26th St. early Tuesday.

Firefighters responded to a report of a blaze inside the home at 3:31 a.m. Tuesday. Upon arrival, fire officials said they saw heavy smoke coming from the top floor of the building. Officials said firefighters were able to break through the door of the apartment and once inside found the one-room living space fully engulfed in flames.

Bozek, who lived in the upper apartment, was dead at the scene. A family of three that lived in a lower apartment was able to escape unharmed.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, but Falls Fire Chief Tom Colangelo has said it may have been the result of an electrical issue.
