FIRE CALLS: Niagara Falls fire reports published Sept. 7

For the period of Aug. 26 to Sept. 1, the Niagara Falls Fire Department responded to 124 calls. The total number of service calls for 2013 to date is 4,460.

• FIRE: On Aug. 26, a garage fire, at 4:34 a.m., in the 1300 block of Linwood Avenue sent a full assignment from Battalion Chief Greg Colangelo’s Platoon 3 crews to the scene. The garage was fully involved upon arrival and damage was estimated at $15,000 to the structure and $1,000 exposure damage to a nearby garage. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

• FIRE: On Aug. 28, Platoon 2 responded, at 2:18 a.m., to an alley in the 800 block of 20th St. for a report of a car fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found a 1994 Mustang that had been stolen from a nearby neighborhood that was fully involved in flames. The vehicle was declared a total loss, with damage set at $4,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

• FIRE: On Aug. 29, another garage fire, at 4:11 a.m., dispatched Platoon 2 to the 400 block of 23rd Street. Garbage cans, lit on fire outside the garage, eventually set the structure itself on fire. Damage was pegged at $10,000. Neighbors told fire investigators they observed a man running from the scene at the start of the fire.

• RESCUE: On Aug. 31, Engine 8 was sent, at 12:45 p.m., to the 500 block of Hyde Park Boulevard to rescue a baby rabbit that had fallen through a sewer grate. After retrieval of the bunny, it was returned to its nearby nervous mother.

• FIRE: On Aug. 31, Engine 8 and Truck 1 responded, at 3:53 p.m., to a large outside rubbish fire in the 1900 block of New Jersey Avenue. A pile of wood, approximately 20 feet by 15 feet in size, accidentally started on fire. Firefighters were on the scene for approximately one hour battling the blaze.

• FIRE: On Sept. 1, a fire, sparked by unattended cooking, spread to the cupboards of a home in the 600 block of Seventh Street. Platoon 3 responded, at 1:47 p.m., and extinguished the fire. Damage was listed at $1,000.
