• VEHICLE FIRE: Engine 8 went to a car fire in the 2700 block of Michigan Avenue at 1:57 a.m. on Aug. 9. A 2000 Ford Focus had heavy fire damage in the passenger compartment. After extinguishment, damage was pegged at $2000 and the cause remains under investigation.
• INDUSTRIAL FIRE: Platoon 3 responded to an alarm at a recently opened paper mill in the 4400 block of Royal Avenue at 3:50 p.m. on Aug. 10. A bale of product caught on fire on a conveyor belt and caused a considerable amount of smoke to fill the facility.Fire damage to the belt and building was relatively minor and the NFFD assisted in ventilating the structure.
• FIRE: A fire in a house in 1800 block of Niagara Street sent Platoon 3 to the scene at 4:32 a.m. on Aug. 11. A mattress in an apartment was on fire upon crews arrival. Damage was listed $1,200 to building and contents.
• FIRE: A fire on the exterior of a garage in the 2700 block of Niagara Street sent Platoon 1 at 10:21 a.m. on Aug. 11. Damage was estimated at $1,000 and the cause is listed as arson and continues to be investigated as part of continuous fire-setting activity in the Midtown area.
