Olean man charged after 200-plus pot plants found

OLEAN — Authorities say a 34-year-old man is behind bars after a police raid at his parents' Western New York home turns up more than 200 marijuana plants and an elaborate growing system.

Police in the city of Olean, near the Pennsylvania border 60 miles south of Buffalo, tell local media outlets that officers executed a search warrant late Saturday and found 220 pot plants on the property.

Officials say they charged Roman Gabriel with criminal possession of marijuana and unlawful growing of cannabis. Police say the home is owned by Gabriel's parents.

Authorities say the growing operation included a ventilation system that prevented the smell of marijuana from getting outside.

Gabriel was being held on $5,000 bail. It couldn't immediately be determined if he had a lawyer.
