Falls police intercept 2-pound package of cocaine

Niagara Gazette — Someone in the Falls North End was expecting a special delivery on Wednesday.

They didn't get it.

Falls Police Narcotics Division detectives said they stepped in an "intercepted" the delivery of a kilo of cocaine heading for what they would only described as "a residence, a duplex, in the North End." Investigators said they had conducted some surveillance that led them to act.

"We're working with the United State Postal Service on this case," Narcotics Division Capt. Dave LeGault said. "We had been tracking the package for a period of time and when t appeared it might not be picked up, we decided to take it."

LeGault said the 2.2 pound package of powdered cocaine would have cost someone about $36,000.

After cutting and packaging, that same amount of coke would have had a street value of about $100,000.

"We want the people who were waiting for that package to know, we got it," LeGault said.

Falls police said they are also working with an "out-of-state law enforcement agency" in their investigation.
