LOCKPORT: Resident files charges against local TV personality

Charges have been filed in the Dec. 14 incident involving Channel 4 meteorologist Mike Cejka.

An Old Beattie Road man has filed trespassing charges with town court against Cejka.

On Dec. 14, Niagara County Sheriff’s Deputy Jonathan Andres reported he drew his gun on Cejka, 55, 10778 Keller Road, Clarence, after the Cejka failed to comply with the deputy’s requests.

The incident began Dec. 14 at about 4 a.m., when the Old Beattie Road man noticed Cejka lifting the covers off a motorcycle in his yard. The resident called 911.

Andres, the Sheriff’s deputy, caught up to Cejka as he was driving on Rapids Road and attempted to stop Cejka after he ran a stop sign. Despite the use of emergency lights, Cejka continued to drive his Jeep Grand Cherokee away from the deputy, according to reports.

Andres continued to pursue Cejka in what the deputy thought might be a possible attempted larceny, Andres said.

According to the report, as the vehicle came to a stop on Rapids Road, Andres ordered Cejka to exit the Jeep and told him several times to put his hands in the air, but Cejka was grabbing at his pants instead. He was then ordered to the ground, where he was placed in handcuffs by the deputy.

Andres searched Cejka for weapons and found a tube of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly Lubricant and a LED flashlight, and observed Cejka wearing a pair of leather chaps cover by a very small pair of sweat pants, as well as a dress shirt, dress shoes and leather jacket, according to the report.

Cejka reportedly would not explain the leather chaps, but after he explained he worked for Channel 4 and was on his way to work, said the Vaseline was for his lips because he speaks a lot during the day.

The report said Cejka told patrol he was on his way to work in Buffalo from Clarence, and wanted to stop and check out a motorcycle he saw in the summer.

“I wasn’t going to steal it, I just wanted to see it again, because I like it so much,” Cejka reportedly told Andres.

Cejka will be back in town court Jan. 19.
