Mass. man paralyzed in motorcycle road rage incident, mother says

LAWRENCE, Mass. — A Massachusetts woman says her son may be paralyzed after a bizarre road rage incident in New York City involving dozens of motorcyclists that was caught on tape Sunday, according to the New York Daily News.

Meanwhile, police in New York say they have arrested one biker and are looking for two more.

Alexian Lien was driving a Range Rover on the Henry Hudson Parkway with his wife, Rosalyn Ng, and their 2-year-old daughter when roughly 30 motorcycles surrounded the vehicle. One biker cut off the SUV and had his rear tire was bumped by the vehicle, the Daily News reported.

Lien stopped, but what happened next is not clear in video of the incident posted to YouTube. Police said the bikers attacked the vehicle, slashing its tires.

Lien drove off, hitting three bikers. One of them was 32-year-old Edwin Mieses of Lawrence, Mass., his mother told the Daily News.

Mieses suffered two broken legs and may never walk again, his family said.

"He's trying to hang on for dear life," his mother, Yolando Santiago, told the Daily News from her Lawrence home on Tuesday. "They're making the riders out to be bad people. They're not. If the driver of the Range Rover would have stopped, none of this would have happened."

The group of motorcyclists caught up with Lien again when he exited the parkway in Washington Heights in upper Manhattan and attacked him. He suffered cuts and bruises on his face, the Daily News reported.

According to police, Lien will not be charged with a crime. Cruz was waiting to be arraigned Tuesday on several charges, including menacing, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child, the Daily News reported.

The 50-block chase was recorded by one of the motorcyclists with a camera on his helmet. As of Tuesday morning, the video had more than 2.3 million views on YouTube.

Details for this story were reported by The New York Daily News.

  • Sunburn isn't the only sign of summer that can leave you itchy and blistered

You've got a rash. You quickly rule out the usual suspects: You haven't been gardening or hiking or even picnicking, so it's probably not a plant irritant such as poison ivy or wild parsnip; likewise, it's probably not chiggers or ticks carrying Lyme disease; and you haven't been swimming in a pond, which can harbor the parasite that causes swimmer's itch.
