Niagara Gazette — Lockport police were on scene along the Erie Canal towpath next to the Flight of Five on Monday.
No, it wasn't a crime scene. Instead there was a movie scene being filmed using some of Lockport's finest as extras.
"The American Side" stars Matthew Broderick and Janeane Garofalo and was written by Buffalo-born Greg Stuhr, according to IMDb.com. The plot summary says "a young engineer in New York discovers a secret Nikola Tesla design that the U.S. government wants to get a hold of," according to the website, which lists scant other details.
Police Chief Lawrence Eggert, who was seen on set, says the movie will feature two LPD cars, an SUV and three officers — Lt. Sal Licata, Det. Kevin Schrader and Officer Aaron Belling.
The movie will feature two actors who have previously appeared in locally produced movies including Kellen Pembleton of Buffalo whose IMDb page also credits her work in "Return to Nuke 'Em High," a Troma horror film shot in Niagara Falls last autumn and "A Grim Becoming," which is currently being filmed in locations around the Buffalo area and Jason John Beebe whose filmography includes "A Grim Becoming" and the independent film "Snow Shark: Ancient Snow Beast," which was filmed in Lockport two years ago. Other actors in the movie include Gail Golden, Jonathan Shoemaker, Shadow C. LaValley and Marcus Ganci-Rotella, according to the film's IMDb page. According to Lockport Mayor Michael Tucker, who was also on set on Monday, the movie's producers are scouting other Lockport locations for potential future movies.
"The American Side" is slated to be released in 2014.
