Falls taking a 'Stand Against Racism' today

Niagara Gazette — The City of Niagara Falls will take a “Stand Against Racism” during a ceremony at 11 a.m. today at city hall council chambers, 745 Main St.

“Stand Against Racism” is a movement that was initiated by the YWCA in 2008 in order to raise awareness that racism still exists in our communities and that it can no longer be ignored or tolerated.

Speakers will include:

• Mayor Paul A. Dyster

• Marjorie Fillies, board vice president, YWCA of Niagara

• Norma Higgs, treasurer of the Niagara Falls Block Club Council

• Tasha E. Moore, regional director of New York State Division of Human Rights

• Owen T. Steed, Niagara County legislator

• The Rev. Harvey Kelley, New Hope Baptist Church

The nationwide event brings together citizens and communities throughout the USA in order to celebrate diversity, raise awareness, and silence the voices of those who promote hate.

“Stand Against Racism” is hosting events in 39 States over the weekend. The program strives toward one common goal — the elimination of racism.
