Falls illumination will honor royal birth

Niagara Gazette — ONTARIO — As the world eagerly awaits the birth of the newest member of the royal family, the Niagara Parks Commission and the Niagara Falls Illumination Board are preparing a special pink or blue illumination of Niagara Falls to commemorate the historic birth date of the future monarch.   “We thought this was a special way to commemorate the birth of our future king or queen and congratulate the royal couple on the arrival of their first child,” stated parks commission Chair and Niagara Falls Illumination board member Janice Thomson.

“Niagara Parks has a great history of royal visits, including Princess Diana’s 1991 trip accompanied by Princes William and Harry. We would be delighted to host one of William and Kate’s future family vacations here as well!”   The parks commission has set up an app on its Facebook page to encourage visitors to guess whether the royal baby will be a boy or a girl. Visitors are encouraged to visit www.niagaraparks.com/royal to make their selection.   Established in 1925, the Niagara Falls Illumination Board is made up of representatives from the City of Niagara Falls Ontario, Ontario Power Generation Inc., the City of Niagara Falls, New York, New York State Parks and The Niagara Parks Commission. It is the Illumination board’s responsibility and mandate to finance and maintain the nightly illumination of both the Horseshoe and American Falls.
