Niagara Falls Memorial Day parade participants announced

Niagara Gazette — The Niagara Falls Veterans Memorial Monument Commission will step off its annual Memorial Day Parade at 11 a.m. Saturday, marching from the City Market at Pine and 18th Street to the Veterans Monument at Hyde Park at Robbins Drive and Pine Avenue.

Colonel John J. Higgins and Falls Police Superintendent Bryan DalPorto will be the main speakers; with words by 26th District Congressman Brian Higgins, state Assemblyman John Ceretto and Niagara Falls Mayor Paul Dyster.

Ann Marie Sawicki will recite Flanders Fields for her uncle 98-year-old WWII and Korea veteran Rocco Larocca, who normally recited the poem.

The 2014 parade will be the final dress rehearsal for the grand opening of the monument on Memorial Day in 2015, where the organizers are planning on star-level speakers and the biggest parade yet.
