Partnership hits the right note: Buffalo Music Hall of Fame teaming with Hard Rock

Niagara Gazette — The Buffalo Music Hall of Fame is getting a new home in Niagara Falls. And it's a fitting location, given its subject matter.

Hard Rock Cafe in Niagara Falls has donated a room to the hall of fame organizers to display memorabilia and items of interest from this year's induction class, which will be revealed at a ceremony at the restaurant at 7 p.m. tonight, just prior to a ribbon cutting unveiling the new room.

"We're so proud to be involved with the Hard Rock Cafe," Buffalo Music Hall of Fame President Rick Mathews said. "They're an international brand, especially the Hard Rock in Niagara Falls because it gets visitors from all over the world. We're proud to have people from all over the world to have the ability to be able to see the talent from our region."

The event is open to the public at the restaurant, 333 Prospect St.

This year's class is the 31st inducted into the Buffalo hall of fame, which honors musical contributions from either current residents or those who once called the area home. Bands like the Goo Goo Dolls and performers like Ani DiFranco, Rick James and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra's JoAnn Falleta have all received the honor in the past.

Non-performer inductions are also scheduled, with booking agents, radio personalities and producers among the many who have joined the ranks alongside the talented musicians. The organization also offers three special awards, including the Legacy Award, the President's Award and the Industry Award.

Eight performers and five non-performers will be inducted.

This year's list covers all of these bases, which left Mathews admittedly amazed.

"I can't say enough about this year's class," Mathews said. "Once again, it amazed me of the talent we have here in Buffalo. It is truly a privilege to recognize and pay tribute to the outstanding talent of these incredible individuals as we prepare to induct them into Buffalo's coveted Music Hall of Fame."
