Niagara Gazette — With summer beginning in the city, a plan to honor a fixture of the 19th Street neighborhood came to fruition on Saturday.
A resolution introduced by Niagara Falls City Council Member Glenn Choolokian back in December of formally changed the name of 19th Street Park, at the corner of 19th street and Forest Avenue, to “Louis S. ‘Big Lou’ Serianni Park.”
On Saturday, friends and family gathered for a special dedication ceremony that set that change in stone.
“I feel privileged to be able to help honor the memory of Mr. Serianni,” Council member Choolokian said. “He exemplified the selflessness and kindness that make this community so great.”
Serianni was an employee of the City of Niagara Falls for more than 30 years, retiring from the wastewater treatment plant in 2002.
A lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, he developed a reputation in the 19th Street neighborhood for lending a helping hand to those in need in his community.
