Niagara Gazette — Today marks the 10th anniversary of the Tap Room Bar on Third Street.

In 2004, owner Jack Hornung turned the dusty storefront into a popular tavern with a dance floor, attracting a mix of locals, tourists, and college students.

Hornung says business over the past decade has had its ups and downs, but things have been looking up over the past year.

“This past year has been the best so far. There’s a lot of new development in the area and it’s starting to bring more people in, so I’m very optimistic that things will continue to improve in the future,” he said.

Hornung plans to open up another bar next door, formerly the Shadow Lounge in the near future.

“It will have a whole new style to it,” he explained, “we’re planning to make it an upscale lounge with food and drinks, and have a Niagara Falls theme to it.

“One of the ideas being tossed around is a daredevil themed decor,” he added.

Hornung encourages everyone to come and participate in tonight’s anniversary celebration. Doors open at 6 p.m. and there will be a live music beginning at midnight. D.J. Heat from Buffalo will be spinning top 40 and dance music.
