Many special events, Gazette insert, to honor vets, celebrate Veterans Day

Niagara Gazette —

Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill across the country are inviting veterans and active duty military personnel to eat free on Veterans Day—Monday.

"Operation: Warmth," was started last winter by the Old Glory Flag and Banner Co. with a goal of  a couple dozen winter coats to distribute to homeless veterans in Niagara Falls. By the distribution date, more than 10 times that amount came in. The coats were paired up with a hat, gloves and a scarf as well as a Bible, an American flag and a letter thanking the veteran for their service to our country.

This year, the company will collect coats through December and will distributed the coats Jan. 4.  Drop off is between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mon.-Fri., at Old Glory Flag, 7350 Porter Road.
