Abate students, mayor to 'Read for the Record' on Thursday

Students, as well as a pair of city officials, will join a nationwide campaign on Thursday.

Jumpstart’s Read for the Record, in partnership with the Pearson Foundation, is a world-record-breaking campaign that brings together children and adults to read the same book on the same day. The selected book for Thursday's event is "Penguin’s Otis," authored by New York Times bestselling author Loren Long.

"Otis" will be read in the Falls with Kristen Grandinetti’s Pre-K class at Harry F. Abate Elementary School. Mayor Paul Dyster and City Administrator Donna Owens are among the participants in the event, starting at 9:15 a.m.

Jumpstart is a national early education organization that advocates the opportunity for every child in America to enter school prepared to succeed. The Pearson Foundation is an independent non-profit organization that aims to promote literacy, learning, and excellent teaching standards.

Anyone can participate and read Otis for free, by going to www.wegivebooks.org, the free digital reading initiative created by Penguin and the Pearson Foundation.
