Niagara Gazette — When Nancy Rose volunteered to create a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club of Niagara Falls, she wanted it to be something different.

The Youngstown mom has helped create a high fashion event, auction and cooking demonstration at the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute Friday, that she hopes will raise the bar on fundraising for her favorite organization.

“They had asked me to come up with a different creative event to raise money,” Rose said. “Last year we put out a Christmas card and asked for donations. This year we tried to do something new and exciting.”

For those who love fashion and food, it sounds like it will be exciting.

“We just recently added a dancing performance with Gail Halim and Serge Komar from Dance like a Stare with Serge,” Rose said, “So now our event venue will have a food, drinks, an auction, a fashion show, a culinary show, and even ballroom dancing!”

Some of the participating retailers include: Sax Off 5th, T.J. Maxx, George Optical, Tuxedo Junction, Stuart Sports, and Z.H. Racine Jewelry of Amherst.

Rose, who began volunteering at the club last year, said that the club is in great need of funds. “The children of Niagara Falls need a safe place to go after school and opportunities to grow to their  potential and learn become responsible citizens in our society,” she said, adding that the club “is also a great place were they can become physically fit and avoid idle time.”

Tickets for the event, planned from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the culinary institute, are $125. For more information, order tickets or simply donate to the club via PayPal, visit www.nfbgc.org.

The clubs programs are designed to provide our youth members with health, social, educational, cultural, career, character, and leadership development through after school and summer programs, she noted, but the building needs much works.

“We really need to improve 17th St. and work along with all the other people trying to improve Niagara Falls,” she added. “What better place to start than with the children. Everybody needs to step up.”
