Lancaster dentist repairs Nick Casal's dental injuries suffered in beating

Niagara Gazette — Reconstructive surgery has given Falls boxer Nick Casal a new smile to flash.

Dr. Anastasia DePounti, of Gentle Dentistry of Lancaster, recently repaired several dental injuries the boxer received after suffering a brutal beating. The case, involving Town of Niagara resident Michael Vicki, who was charged in the assault by police, is now in court.

“It was my pleasure to help this young man who has been an icon to many,” DePounti said. “It was hard to imagine that someone would so brutally attack him like that and leave him for dead. I am very happy that we were able to help him. He’s a really nice guy. No one deserves to have to go through what that young man has endured.”

Casal (22-4-1, 17 KOs) was reportedly attacked outside Vicki’s home on Portland Street in the Town of Niagara in early May. According to reports, he suffered brain bruising and a brain bleed after he was struck multiple times from behind and knocked to the ground.

Vicki, awaiting trial in the case, has repeatedly stated Casal was the aggressor and he was only defending himself.

Casal also reportedly suffered a chipped tooth, repaired as part of the corrective measures taken by DePounti.

The attack took place just hours before Casal was scheduled to fight Ruslan Provodnikov (21-1-0, 14 KOs) on national television. Casal has yet to return to the ring.

Casal said he’s grateful for the procedure, crediting his doctor with giving him a new smile.

“I can’t believe what they did for me,” he said. “Dr. DePounti gave me a whole new smile. (My teeth) look better now than they did before my injury. I am forever grateful.”
