Niagara Gazette — Regina Scibilia Cecconi is calling herself a political outsider in her quest to be the next Lewiston town clerk.
A Republican candidate, she said she’s been embarrassed by some of the recent news stories published about those elected in Lewiston and believes a fresh face is exactly what the town needs.
“There has been much scandal and discord in Lewiston among some elected officials,” she said. “Lewiston deserves someone that is not a member of the establishment which has generated embarrassing headline after headline. Lewiston deserves someone who can provide a fresh start, with fresh ideas. I am that person.”
Since becoming active in the community of Lewiston-Porter in 1991, she said, she’s received a number of college degrees and certificates, including graduating magnum cum laude from Niagara University with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree and the completion of her master’s certificate in human resource management from Villanova University. She said she’s also received her professional human resource certification this past January.
But it’s her sense of community and belief in what lies ahead for Lewiston that drove her decision to run for office, she said.
“It is because I appreciate this community and care about its future that I have decided to run for the position of Lewiston town clerk,” she said. “I believe this position would allow me to utilize my human resource, interpersonal and communication skills, along with my managerial experience to its fullest potential.”
Since interest grew on her part, she said, she has been researching ways the town clerk’s office could be improved. For instance, she said, the office’s online presence is difficult to read and understand. She said she’d fix this so the online experience is more helpful and engaging.
She’s also proposing an extension of office hours on Thursdays and Saturdays to provide residents better accessibility to conduct whatever business is needed.
