MLK Jr. ceremony returns to Falls High School to honor community members

Niagara Gazette — Niagara Falls High School is once again set to host the city's annual the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration.

The ceremony, which begins at 6 p.m. Thursday in the performing arts center of the high school, 4455 Porter Road, will honor the accomplishments of four of the city's notable residents, whether for contribution to the city or to the high school.

Sister Beth Brosmer of Heart, Love and Soul Food Pantry, Matthew and Yvonne Davis of The Lord's Day Dinner and high school student Shaun Jenkins highlight this year's group of honorees, each with their own contributions to the local community.

In addition, Buffalo-based pastor the Rev. Jeffrey Carter of Ephesus Ministries on Grider Street will provide this year's keynote address. He has served as leader of the parish for the past 11 years, following a stint as director of the Pastoral and Church Ministries program at Houghton College.

The Rev. Carter also spent 25 years as the Protestant chaplain at Attica Correctional Facility, where he began and facilitated many life-changing programs for the inmates and their families.
