Black History display going up at Power Vista

Niagara Gazette — The New York Power Authority’s exhibit on civil rights in honor of Black History Month and the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act will be on display beginning Monday at the Power Vista.

“Civil Rights: Then and Now,” focuses on two significant American milestones, featuring photos and essays on the landmark Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision in 1954 and the passage of the Civil Rights Act in 1964.

Students at area schools were invited to submit materials on these important events to help create the exhibit.

NYPA will honor African American heritage throughout February, highlighted by projects submitted by area students and exhibits of several books by Willie A. Price, the local author of the youth publication, “This Week In Black History.”

Visitors are also invited to enjoy the Power Vista’s attractions, which include displays and interactive exhibits relating to the production of electricity, energy efficiency and the Niagara area’s history, plus spectacular views from the observation deck 350 feet above the Niagara River Gorge. Parking and admission at the visitors center for the Niagara Hydroelectric Power Plant is always free.

The Power Vista is located at 5777 Lewiston Road, Lewiston. For more information, contact the Power Vista at 286-6661 or email
