Wilson Brew Co. now serving up coffee in the village

Niagara Gazette — WILSON — There’s definitely something brewing inside the village’s new business — but the name might be a little misleading.

The Wilson Brew Co. opened Dec. 15 after about a year of remodeling but it’s coffee you’ll find inside the Catherine Street business.

Owner Anne Daul had originally planned on opening a brewery when she registered the name, but decided to go with a coffee shop instead.

“A brewery would have needed a lot more equipment and time, so I figured I’d brew coffee instead!” she explained.

Behind the barista counter, 33 flavors of syrup offer customers plenty of options for their beverages. The shop offers freshly ground coffee, specialty drinks like macchiatos and cappuccinos, and homemade bagels and baked goods. Seating is available in a side room with windows looking out at the street.

Business has been steady so far, thanks to word of mouth and Facebook, Daul said.

“We already have a lot of regulars coming in, and we see customers from Wilson and other towns as well,” Daul said.

Anne and her husband Patrick bought the building in 2011.

“We walked into the store one day and the flat roof was lying on the floor,” Patrick said. “We had one project after the next bringing the building up to code.”

The Dauls found out some interesting facts about the building’s history after purchasing it. Parts of the dining room originated as a blacksmith shop in the 1800s. An addition was moved from Main Street onto the side of the building in the 1920s, where the barista bar is now. The building served as a meeting hall for the Wilson Fire Department in the 1920s, a Plymouth dealership in the 1940s, a repair shop in the 1950s, and a trucking company in the 1960s.

“We talked to the historical society, and they helped us piece it together,” Anne said.
