IN BUSINESS: George Edwards will close doors Saturday

Niagara Gazette — George Edwards will close his family jewelry business after 17 years.

The jewelry business, located at 2131 Sawyer Drive, will sell its last gem on Saturday.

Edwards, who has worked nearly 40 years in the jewelry business, is looking for a change. “I just turned 60,” he said. “It’s time.”

”While I have met youth and my health I just decided I’ll take a little different direction for the rest of my life,” he said. “I may possibly do something in the business, but on a much smaller scale.”

”I have a pretty strong base of clientele I’d like to keep in contact with,” he added.

Under consideration is traveling to Antwerp, Belgium, and dealing directly with diamond cutters.

”It would give me an opportunity for my wife and I to go over to Antwerp several times a year,” he said.

The result would be an office with hours set at his convenience. “I have a pretty strong base of clientele I’d like to keep in contact with,” he added.

Edwards noted that the jewelry store will be reopening for three days after Christmas, to attend to customers who have made holiday purchases.
