MEN'S LACROSSE: Bandits captain to coach NCCC

One of the most famous names in local lacrosse will coach the county’s first men’s lacrosse team.
Buffalo Bandits standout and Niagara-Wheatfield graduate Rich Kilgour said Monday will be named head coach of the Niagara County Community College men’s lacrosse program at a press conference Friday. NCCC officials declined comment on the hire.
“I knew I wanted to get into coaching and this is a great opportunity,” Kilgour said Monday from his Sanborn home. “I’m going to put a lot into this and I’m hoping to get a lot out of it.”
Kilgour, who turns 40 on Wednesday, said he will begin his duties in the coming months as he recruits players in anticipation of the Trailblazers inaugural season next spring. He added that he plans to focus on the local recruiting scene, which also includes a great deal of talent just over the border in Ontario.
He added that his brother Darris, the Bandits head coach, will also play a part in the program along with NCCC graduate and current Bandits defenseman Kyle Scmelzle. Sanborn residents Jim Bissel and Jay Drury are also expected to be on the staff.
Kilgour, in his 18th season with Buffalo, is currently on the physically unable to perform list with tennis elbow. He has been a member of all four Bandits championship teams.
