Human remains being investigated

The investigation continued Tuesday after a walk in the woods led to a grim discovery on Saturday after a local resident found human remains in the Town of Lockport.

A local resident told police he was walking in a wooded area when he came across what he believed to be human bones. State Police Uniform and members of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the area and confirmed the remains to be human.

Troopers and investigators from the Forensic Identification Unit are working with the Niagara County coroner and local police agencies to try and identify the remains.

The remains are believed to be that of a male, over 50 years of age and may have been in the area for about three years.

State Police and the Niagara County coroner do not suspect foul play at this time. State Police are asking that anyone with information about missing persons matching the description to please contact them at 434-5589.
