BILLS: Charges dropped against McIntyre

Staff and wire reports

A misdemeanor charge against Buffalo Bills fullback Corey McIntyre will be dropped after police say a witness offered questionable statements.

Prosecutors in Port St. Lucie, Fla., said the victim’s identification of McIntyre as the suspect was questionable.

“I just want to say that I’m happy my name has been cleared today,” McIntyre said Wednesday, following the Bills’ minicamp practice. “I’ve maintained my innocence all through this process and I’m glad it’s out of the way. I’m sorry for the embarrassment to my family and to the Bills and now focus is on training camp.”

McIntyre, 30, was arrested last month on accusations that he fondled himself outside a Port St. Lucie woman’s home about 100 miles north of Miami. The incident occurred in March. McIntyre had been free on $10,000 bond.

Police suspect another man may be the culprit, and McIntyre was misidentified.

McIntyre has said he was out riding his bike in the area as part of his regular workout on the night he was arrested.

Following the arrest, McIntyre’s agent, Brett Tessler, issued a statement saying McIntyre was “guilty of absolutely nothing.”

“Corey McIntyre is one of the highest character people around and the last guy who would do what he is being accused of,” Tessler said.

McIntyre is the only fullback on the Bills’ current roster. The 6-foot, 258-pounder was signed midway through last season.

Offensive line coach Sean Kugler said rookie guards Eric Wood and Andy Levitre will both compete for starting positions during training camp.

“Both are doing an excellent job and they’re good in the classroom and workers on the field,” said Kugler, a Lockport native. “Their production has shown up in the team work. Everything we’ve asked of them they’ve done so far, and I expect that to continue.

Levitre has been rotating at left guard with converted tackle Kirk Chambers, while Wood has been alternating with free agent signee Seth McKinney on the right side.

Kugler said he hopes to set the starting lineup early in training camp.

Leodis McKelvin participated in team work for the first time in over two weeks. McKelvin, who had been out with an infected finger, ran with the second team secondary.

Marshawn Lynch, Roscoe Parrish and Aaron Maybin were each held out of practice. Parrish was seen icing his left calf on Tuesday. Lynch and Maybin’s ailments are unknown. Coach Dick Jauron is expected to update the injury situation today.
